The IU Health Bloomington Hospital at the Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) is a 810,000 square foot facility sitting on 50 acres bringing healthcare to Southern Indiana while training healthcare workers of tomorrow. Construction Manager, Wilhelm, and IU Health sought an equipment provider and temperature control partner to provide a unified systems for all components on campus. Open Control Systems and Validated Custom Solutions worked hand in hand to meet their energy efficiency goals.
As a hospital, strict temperature and pressure regulations must be met to be FDA compliant. The Open Control Systems building automation system provides comprehensive data collection that is continually presented to the clinical staff allowing for immediate monitoring and adjustment. This includes pressuring monitors in surgical suites and isolation rooms, and temperature monitoring in all refrigerators containing medication throughout the hospital and pharmacy. A refrigerant and gas detection system was also installed at the Central Plant. With patient comfort at top of mind, each room is equipped with individual temperature controls.
To accomplish the air pressurization and flow measurement requirements of the facility, OCS installed and commissioned the Critical Room Control (CRC) system that was provided by our equipment group, Validated Custom Solutions. VCS also provided equipment for the Campus Central Plant, as well as all the Custom Air Handling Equipment in the Hospital and Educational facilities. Three (3) Evapco Induced Draft Cooling towers provide over 3,000 tons of cooling to the Campus Central Plant. Fifteen (15) Haakon Custom Air Handling units deliver over 500,000 cfm of clean, temperature-controlled, and energy-efficient air to the occupied spaces of the campus facility.
The equipment and services provided by OCS and VCS, helped IU Health Bloomington RAHC achieve LEED Silver certification.
